Prayer Power

Children are a gift of the Lord!  Depending on the day, or the moment, that gift may feel like a treasure, a challenge, heartache, or joy. One thing I know, your child will fulfill God’s purpose in his life! I doubt Moses’ mom thought he would deliver the children of Egypt one day or Hannah thought Samuel would be a great prophet. It probably never occurred to David’s mom that he would one day be a king!

Don’t you wonder what the plan is for your child’s life? How do we, as moms, mold and shape their lives to prepare them for all God has in store for them? Prayer is one way we can pour into the lives of our children to help mold their character.

We read of Hannah in 1 Samuel 1 that she poured out her heart to God so earnestly that the priest thought she was drunk. Hannah was a praying mom. Lamentations 2:19 tells us, “Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift your hands to Him for the lives of your children…”

We can pour prayer over our children. Praying God’s word over our children has a lasting, powerful impact! I encourage you to pray God’s word over your children by inserting their names into Scriptures. Identify a need in your child’s life and find a Scripture to meet that need. Consider the examples below.

– Is your child being bullied at school? Pray from Psalm 31:20. Hide _________    in the shelter of Your presence, safe from those who conspire against him/her. Shelter _________   in Your presence, far from accusing tongues.

– Does your child struggle with anger issues? May  ___________    be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. (from James 1:19)

– Is your child impulsive? Pray for self-control from Galatians 5:22-23. May ______ exhibit the fruits of the spirit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

– Is your child impatient? Pray the words from Colossians 3:12. May ___________ clothe himself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

I am praying for you, dear mom, that whatever you or your children are facing today that you will confidently come before God’s throne to find grace to help in your time of need. (from Hebrews 4:16)
